Description
The origins of Ozzano dell'Emilia date back to the Roman Empire, when the town located in what is now the hamlet "Maggio" was called Claterna. Of Claterna one can visit the archaeological area and the Museum.
For many centuries Ozzano dell'Emilia belonged to the Church State, as did the entire territory of Bologna.
Today Ozzano dell'Emilia, only 10 km from Bologna, is a modern town of 13,000 inhabitants, with efficient services, lots of greenery, a vibrant cultural life and is home to the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Bologna. It has some world-class companies in packaging and precision engineering. It can count on an effective and extensive transportation network: highways, railway lines (surface metro to Bologna) and an airfield for private aircraft.
Much of its hills are protected and are part of the Regional Park for Biodiversity of Eastern Emilia and, recently, two sites on our territory have been recognized as geo-sites protected by Unesco (Calanchi dell'Abbadessa and Valle del Rio Centonara).
In 2015, thanks to its geo-morphological characteristics, Ozzano dell'Emilia became part of the LAG for the enhancement of the Bolognese Apennines.
Today Ozzano dell'Emilia aims to combine its tourism potential with a highly qualified production and service presence.
